Hail Protector Reviews
From great personal attention to truly testing this product
Chuck P, March 27, 2017
PERSONALLY TESTED: From great personal attention to truly testing this product, it is worth the price for "peace of mind" when hail is around the corner. I have a truck that is too long to fit in my garage. So, I purchased the Hail Protector as I live in Texas and with Spring comes some damaging storms. The timing couldn't have been better. Two days after receiving my cover, it hailed up to baseball size hail in some areas. Saw the warnings using the app provided with the cover. Monitored the storms developing throughout the day. Put the cover on the truck, pushed the button and no more concerns. (except for the rest of the house and property). In the morning, removed the cover, rolled it up and placed it back in the handy bag it came with for the next storm. We all have insurance to repair our vehicles, but we also don't have the time to deal with it. ROI on this cover for me is the time, cost and inconvenience it saves me from having to deal with insurance, car rentals and body shops.
IMPORTANT - SIZING! Make sure you get the right size cover. I have a Silverado 2500. Its length is right at 230". Although I bought the SUV3 cover, the right size cover FOR MY TRUCK was the SUV2. Hail Storm Products owner came to my house, swapped out the covers and refunded the difference. That is CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Amazing! Works just like the videos!

WOW, are we impressed! We have a full-size Tundra. Living in south-east Colorado we get Hail!!!! It took a little time to get it all set up, having the large size it is a lot of material. We sure do get looks and well? Some teasing of our neighbors as well. Well, we will see who is laughing at the spaceship in the driveway when our tundra is perfect after the storm and theirs isn't. Amazing!!!!

Hail Protector should I buy?
The best way to determine the size you need is to measure the length of your vehicle from bumper to bumper. Although there are a few other variables to consider with trucks. For more details, check out their page titled "What Size for Me?".
What is “breathable” fabric and why is it important?
Breathable fabric allows moisture (even from the dew point) and heat (from the outside environment) to escape from your vehicle’s paint finish. Trapped moisture and heat on your paint finish are damaging to your vehicle paint finish. This is why most car covers utilize breathable fabric.
Beware of car covers that use PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) used in pool inflatables and covers that use rigid or flexible panels encased in breathable fabric. If the rigid or flexible panels are not breathable, then it doesn't matter what they are encased in. These covers will not allow moisture to properly evaporate from your vehicle paint finish and will not allow heat to properly escape.
The Hail Protector System uses only breathable fabric and no rigid or flexible panels.
Will the Hail Protector scratch my automobile?
No. The inner layer of the cover doesn't move. Even under storm conditions, the inner layer does not move. No friction, no scratches. In fact, if you reach inside of the cover, at the rear, where the velcro opening is located, you can attempt to move the inner layer physically with your hand and you'll see how difficult it is to move.
Why do I need an early warning alert service and daily forecast?
No matter how effective the Hail Protector System is at stopping any size hail and protecting your entire vehicle, anywhere, if you are not aware of whether your state is in jeopardy of severe weather and/or not aware that your specific address is in jeopardy of severe weather and hail storm potential, then you are still guessing whether to install your cover or not. The Hail Protector System is as much about providing you peace of mind on days when severe weather is not imminent in your state or at your address, as it is about providing you peace of mind on days when the mother of all hail storms is at your specific address. The ability to be prepared in every way enables you to install your system in the most composed fashion, oftentimes well ahead of the first raindrop

This thing protects your vehicle like a bounce house. I had trouble with the remote control. They sent me a replacement in 24 hour by fedex. They also sent a direct connection so I don't have to rely on a switch.
I would had rated this as ll gives if it had fit my car. I ordered the size that instructions said would fit my car. It did not. Had to make my own modifications and it's good now. Does protect car.

We had hail, and didn't end up paying a deductible or rental car. Having put it on 3 time so far (live in North Texas), we are very proficient and can install in about 5 minutes. My wife could do it by herself if needed. Really easy and clearly works. If you have a car that has to stay outside...this is your answer.
Not as easy to put on large pickup
Works very well! It takes me about 8 minutes to cover my pickup truck and adjust it properly. Fully inflates in 10 minutes and starts protecting in 6-7 minutes. Customer service is awesome. I am very pleased that I made the purchase. One of the keys to success is setup it up and practice BEFORE bad weather rolls in.
Superb YouTube installation video!!!
I give this thing 5 stars in anticipation of the first hail storm. Not tested yet ( except for installation) but it certainly looks like it will work. Watch all the videos first! Also helps to have two people and little/no wind at least for the first time.
I compare products for a hobby and professionally. I'm an multiple engineer and know a lot about alot. (it had to be said) Keep reading.... I collect classic & super cars & classic trucks. I can not always have them in the garages. I was looking to purchase another great car cover, like the ones I have, AND HailProtector Shows up on my screen.I purchased right away, (I could return if I didn't like it), got it in 3 days. Checked it over for any issues, in materials, sewing, wiring, fans used, air flow, ... Passed in every area! And with very high standards in manufacturing, And the thoughtfulness of keeping the cost down. It's a lower price then really good "just a car cover" I use to purchase. My Review and comparison is to quality car covers and The Car Capsule (I own 3 of these)HailProtector is a very high quality, car cover, very light in weight with an ability to be a mega protect for your car / truck / SUV by simple inflation (DC or AC). It really is simple... I bet you haven't realised you can take The Hail Protector with you wherever you park. Work, Ball games, concert... Bad weather can spring up quickly.HailProtector has an inner material that touches my car, it’s soft. The outside material is UV, rain… protection like any other high-quality car cover. 3 power sources can be used and with a remote control. DC power pack or your cars power and AC power. HailProtector uses lots of built in elastic ribs and dual under-car straps, to keep the cover tight to the car. So, wind does not blow it off. Getting the under-car straps, from one side to the other IS EASY! LOL and brilliant. HailProtector gives you a retractable tape measure to extend under the car to the other side! lock the tape measure, walk to the other side, attach the two under-car straps to the end of the tape measure with the rubber band holder, walk back to the other side and just retract the tape measure. Surprise, you now have the two under-car straps in your hands. Wow, you didn’t have to get on the ground to reach for them. More about HailProtector below. But first…“Car Capsule” is best for admiring your beauty in Car Capsule's inflated, clear vinyl protection chamber and only in your garage. It’s very well built, great electronics… last for years. (I have had mine for 15+ years) Down Side: you must drag the clear plastic cover over the car, bend down to zip it closed at ground level, all the way around 3 sides of your car. Car Capsule also make an outside model that is the same style of constant inflation and its not clear . Most of the same positive and negative of use. UV rated to protect your beauty from sun Damage. Great inflated protection. I would not want the plastic cover to touch my paint for very long in the hot sun deflated. And what if you have a power outage due to a bad storm?HailProtector: The Engineer who developed the HailProtector is a genius in this market. His "YouTube" videos of how to place the few parts to the HailProtector are a tad bit slow, but in easy to understand instructions. Product evaluation: correct materials both, inside touching your car, and on the outside protection your car from sun damage. I don't have any problem with this material touching my paint on a hot day when not inflated. Double stitching, fan placement and type, power cord placement that protection for your car and remote-controlled power box and all is protected from driving rain. Straps under the car are high quality. This is brilliant also, HailProtector added a simple retracting tape measure to bring the under-car straps to you without getting on the ground or reaching under your car to grab them. (extend the tape measure under your car. Lock it, walk around to the other side, attach the 2 strap ends to the tape measures, rubber band holder, walk back to the other side, retract the tape measure, and there are you straps)3 DC power options, the battery pack that holds 8 AA, or your car battery direct connect or the cigarette lighter plug.(it does not use a lot of power, so your safe for a long inflation protection time. Home, Office…A/c electricity. I added a smart wi-fi plug to my garage power outlet, it controls my extension cords that are plugged into the HailProtector. I can inflate from anywhere! My friend is using it in her garage. She inflates it via Wi-Fi, just before his kids get home. No more kid scratches, dents, bike leaning on the car...Downside: It has an inner and outer material, are connected at the edge. If not removed as instructed, it becomes a really big cover. Like a slightly inflated personal hot air balloon. It’s easy to get back in control , just slid it off… or Watch the YouTube video on removing the cover. It’s easy once you know how.
This will be my second order of the Hail Protector aka "carmadillo." It's perfect for the fierce LARGE hail that pounds North Texas in the spring, is easy to assemble and inflate, and has saved us a deductible many times over. It has gone down in price from my first purchase (from near $500 to $250 in two years) and was a great bonus in deciding to get another. That said, it is not indestructible. Think of this as a large sail. It can take some serious punishment, but when you've got straight-line 70+mph winds, something will eventually give. It was still attached to the vehicle, so the straps holding it to the car are robust, as is the stitching and overall construction. The eventual tear was in the actual fabric and not a seam, and it could potentially be caused by a sharp flying object, or the stresses from sustained near-hurricane force winds - there were lots of downed tree limbs and debris strewn about if it's any indication of conditions.Regardless, I have been very impressed with the overall quality and ease of use. Would get again and again.
So initially I gave this one star because I could not get it to work. Turned out there was an issue with the remote control circuit board. I contacted the seller and got an immediate response giving me some things to do to try and trouble shoot. I did what he said and we came to the conclusion of the issue. He was great with replacing the part that needed to be fixed. Customer service goes a long way.I have since used the protector in recent storms, the hail passed us but if it didn’t I was prepared. I live in an RV park and several of us now have the protector which we love to call “the silver worm” or “worm” . Make sure you take it out of the box the minute you get it and try it. If any issues contact the seller, he is VERY responsive.***********************************************Unfortunately I didnt take this out and try it when i got it. I waited till we had a storm. The power didnt work and i could not get it to come on so basically Its a really expensive car cover. Cant return it cause I didnt try it when I got it. It was about 2 months after I got that I needed it. Very disappointed, I have a new car exposed to the elements and I was hoping this would protect it...
After watching hail pound two (2) of my vehicles in the driveway a couple of years back, I have a lot of comfort knowing I'm protected. AND......I can keep my vehicle in the driveway, and not pay a monthly storage fee.

He has no trouble putting it on ahead of time then using the remote control to inflare it. We haven't actually experienced any hail so far so I can't comment about that, but the cover is well-made, so I have no doubt that it will protect either car, whichever happens to be out in the elements during a hailstorm. I'm just aggravated that the info for the free storm warning app was lost during the Christmas madness.
When I was a kid, burned into my memory was the most truly horrific hailstorm. So bad at the time it resulted in the single greatest dollar loss from a hail event anywhere. Worst of all a newborn was killed while her mother was running for cover. No dollar amount lost can ever compare to that loss of life and I only mention it to underscore how we sit in ‘hail alley.’That particular storm dropped hail up to the size of grapefruit. Virtually every car in the county was destroyed. My mother’s first new car then only a week old was totaled. A good thing as the wait times for new windshields let alone body work was many months to get their vehicles back. Since we've always parked in the garage for protections sake. That worked out well until last year when we added a vehicle and can’t fit all into our garage now.I had purchased a so called hail cover from an Australian company a few years ago, it was basically a car cover with slightly thicker padding. It didn’t do much of anything except fall apart from the rain?! So I searched and searched until I came across this cover. I read a number of articles, went through a bunch of YouTube vids and from all that thought it would be worth it to give it a try.The cover comes with everything you need other than 8 AA batteries, a backup power source for the protector if no AC power. FYI for that I purchased several high capacity rechargeable batteries here on amazon. The cover is made from quality materials. Undo the Velcro strip at the end of the cover with the hole cutouts, slide the blowers inside then seal it back up again. It inflates very quickly. Do be sure to tighten down the attached black straps very well. Necessary so once inflated the wind doesn’t take it away. No worries though in this last storm the winds howled and the cover stayed put.I tested it in advance, tossed some small rounded stones about the weight of a baseball size hail. They bounced off like a five year old in bouncy house. During the first storm this went through it rained a lot. Some rain got inside between the layers. At first I was concerned but discovered they had thought of that. In the design there are drain holes along the edges for emptying out any that might accumulate. Customer service is the best. I had one minor question at the outset. It was a Sunday nobody was there and I didn’t leave a message. No matter the next day I got a surprise call back from them. They just wanted to make sure everything was okay, nice!Knock on wood we won’t be strafed by terrible hail this year but if we are I am confident this cover will protect our vehicle. Lord knows I hope I don’t get to test it out on frozen baseballs but sooner or later it’ll happen. So that said I couldn’t be happier with this protector and highly recommend it. One last thing they have gone to the trouble of putting up a bunch of how-to vids on YouTube besides all those posted by customers. So pretty much any question you might have can be answered there or just give the folks behind this a call.**Troubleshooting Tip – always test the cover in advance. Example I had used the cover a few times then today went to put up as we are forecast to get hit with potentially terrible hail, tornadoes, etc. I put it on then tested to be sure all was good, ready to go. But it didn’t power on? I switched between AC and battery power supplies and still nothing? Undid the Velcro strap looked at the end where the blowers are inserted. There at the end of the blower assembly bar you'll see the positive and negative wires are connected with ‘slider wire cover clips’ so to speak. One of those had pulled loose/out so not connected. In moving it on and off the vehicle I managed to pull the one connection apart. But EASY to fix just slide it back on and good to go. If that happens to you e.g. no power? Take a look at the blowers as it is plain as day obvious and could not be easier to remedy. For those never having touched a wire think of this like a lamp you have plugged inside your home that you bumped while vacuuming and just needs to be pushed back in the socket to work. So all said after doing that the blowers for the protector powered up just as expected.
Last March we had a major hail storm in my area. My house was badly damaged and my car was a total loss. I've never seen anything like it. But storms with smaller hail happen fairly often here (and they can do damage, too) so I started looking for a way to protect my new car. Luckily, I found the Hail Protector on Amazon.INSTALLATION:1) I should mention that I don't have an aptitude for assembling and installing things, and was concerned that I might run into problems with this. But the written instructions (with photos) are very good. And there are great videos on the company's website. So using the two together, I didn't have any trouble getting the cover installed. It did take me a long time--over an hour to assemble and about 45 minutes to install--but when I wasn't sure I was doing it right, I would watch the video again, so there was some screen time there.2) No great physical strength is needed. Pulling the drawstring to tighten the cover around the car isn't difficult, and the heaviest thing you have to lift is the cover to place it up on the vehicle when you're ready to spread it out, which is somewhat cumbersome but not very heavy. Of course, I ordered the Car1 (smallest they make) so it might be helpful to have 2 people install a large cover. But, anyway, if I can put this thing together and install it on my car, I think just about anyone can.DESIGN:I'm really impressed with the concept and design of the system. While watching some of the test videos that show large, heavy objects, some with 2-inch spikes, being dropped and flung at a vehicle, and landing on the inflated cover without piercing it or even penetrating very deeply into the cover, I was amazed. In one video, a camera was installed on top of a vehicle, so you could see how much empty space there was between the vehicle and the inflated cover. You could also see potentially damaging objects hit the cover, but they barely caused a ripple--there was still all that safe space between the vehicle and the inflated cover. So this is very tough material. Plus, the designer incorporated a lot of ingenious elements that make it easier to install, for example, using a cinch so you have more control over the drawstring, don't have to tug and tug, and can get it really tight and keep it that way; and using a tape measure and rubber band to pull the straps under the vehicle. (Why did I never think of that with regular car covers?)Bottom line is, I love my Hail Protector. After seeing how tightly the cover fits on my car, I think it would take a monster storm to blow it off. And after watching the videos, I'm confident that it will protect my car from any kind of hail we have. I told a friend that this is my new favorite toy. But saving my car is serious business, so it isn't really a toy. For me, the Hail Protector has become a necessity.
This company and their product is one of the best I have had the pleasure of dealing with in a long time! I accidentally ordered the wrong size and on top of that forgot to change my default address in my amazon account and didn't realize it until it was in mid transit to another state! I contacted the company and they got back to me right away! Not only did they swap out my size, but they rerouted the delivery back to them and reshipped it to me at NO ADDITIONAL COST! For a company to do that now days is amazing! When I got the cover, I have to be honest, it did take me a bit my first time to set up. Being somebody that is only 5'2" with a Camaro, it was a little difficult to get the cover over the mid part of my car, but I got it and once the cover was on, it worked great! I thought it was the coolest looking thing and even had some of my guy neighbors come over and ask me about it. Fantastic product!
First time out of the box is a hassle, but it gets easier to install. Haven't needed to use it yet, but it's peace of mind knowing that we can do something if hail is on the way.
Not suitable for apartment living. Kind of pain to set up. We ordered something else instead.
Takes a little while to put up but great to know my car will be protected
Don't bother we the paper instructions, they are confusing, missing info and very frustrating. Just watch the instructions on YouTube. Fairly easy to assemble. Easy to install and to take down. Haven't had a hail storm yet but it looks like it will do the job.
Update: Hail Protector responded to the original review about the codes for the app. They sent the codes. There was a communication issue! So they are now 5 star!Original: So far they have been awesome. Did not give the full five star due to never receiving the passcode for the early warning app. We ordered 3 of these covers and never received the code. Even messaged them about it with no response. So the app was sitting on our phones, draining the battery for no reason. We haven't received response about the code for the app for over a month, getting closer to 2 months. So everything we ordered, wasn't fully delivered on 3 of these covers. We have had to wing the warnings.
I bought a new car this year for the first time. When buying it, I did not consider the fact that I have NO GARAGE and I live in "Hail Alley" (northern Colorado). Before I found the Hail Protector, every time it would thunder, I'd run out and have to drive down to the nearest covered parking and sit for an hour or two until the storm was over. Needless to say, that was highly inconvenient! Then, I found the Hail Protector. I didn't expect much, but this thing really works! Not only that, but once you have the initial setup completed, it is fast and easy to get it on (takes me about 10 minutes to set up all by myself. Note that I have a mid-size sedan - if you have a truck or SUV, it may take longer & more than 1 person). The app that comes with it is helpful as is the remote! Just put it on your car when you expect hail and when you hear that thunder, press the button on the remote and it starts filling up! I've had numerous neighbors show interest in this product. Thank you for creating this!
it does exactly what it says it will do. I watched the thing get hit by golf ball size hail and no damage to my new truck! I love it!!
Amazing!!!!
Warp speed shipping, great product that works just as described and the installation videos are extremely helpful. My only two suggestions would be when you're installing it, 1) place the blower pack part up on the back of the vehicle until you get the cover pulled forward sufficiently. The weight of it dragged down the back of it and made it a tad difficult to get the front covered really good. and 2) during your practice run, even if it's not cinched down good, blow it up a couple of times to stretch out some of the puckers on the top, to make the fabric relax a bit. It gets easier to cinch down after that. We got the largest size and fit our double cab pickup just fine.I hate to even add this part because we loved the product and these guys obviously put a lot of thought and work into this, but if you're older (60s) and not in the best health, this could be a strenuous job, especially if you're practicing in the heat. Under a time crunch before a storm, I'm not sure we could do it fast enough to protect the truck.
Easy to use
My neighbor had gotten one for his Chevy Pickup and it worked like a gem during our first storm. I had originally bought this cover for my new Focus ST but soon after I got it I bought my wife a new Frontier Pickup. My car normally stays outside and my wife's in the garage(hence the need for the cover) but her truck won't fit in the garage now so I get to put mine in there (Woohoo!) Obviously I have no need for a cover this small so I called Zanetta at Hail Protector to see if I could swap it out and she did it for one that fits our truck. I'm going to open it and put it on to get it all set for our next hail storm. I will update this review after the next storm but I'm sure it'll work just fine. My neighbor swears by it so I have no doubt that it'll work for me too. Thanks Zanetta for making this easy.
I like the product, but,but I am not capable of handling it.
This thing is outstanding. We have owned it now for a year and it is such a relief to have. We have an older home and cannot park our cars in the garage. If an overnight storm is going to happen we just put this over the Honda Pilot plug it in and go to sleep. After the first time total set up takes just a few minutes. With the pilot being a larger vehicle it can be done with one person but way easier with two. I am also impressed how this thing held up through one season and storage. No damage, mold, tears, etc. Great product.

I am picky about what I put on my truck all the way down to cleaners and the underside of the hail protector is soft enough it doesn't scratch ! . I got the SUV 3 for the size of my truck with the lift. My only wish is that there was a wind strap that goes in front of the rear wheels. When I first got the Hail Protector my husband and I tried putting it on.. good thing we practiced because we realized we made a mistake. Our neighbors got a great kick out of watching us because we pulled it off the truck before it was deflated and the kids just thought it was so cool....haha.I have had it on my truck a few times now and I am to where I can do it myself. It is faster with 2 people with the size of my truck but I can do it without my husband's help. You do need space for this to inflate so don't park on top of another car. It goes on in less than 5 minutes and takes about 15 minutes to fully inflate. I did find out that holding the back end where the blower is up it does help with inflation. I don't know if that would be the case on a car but on my truck it helps. I also find that undoing the velcro when you are deflating helps speed up the process. It is easy to roll back up and put in the oversized bag. When rolled up it isn't super heavy ( those that play hockey it is about the weight of a loaded gear bag)I have had plenty of weird stares having this on my truck but at the same time I have had people ask what it was and where I got it. .. I could have just started a trend in our neighborhood !I fully recommend this to anyone that doesn't have access to a garage and live in an area prone to hail storms. Well worth the money! Cheaper than a deductible and hassle of having the car in the shop due to damage !
I bought one of these to cover my car that would not fit in the garage. Its a little pain to put on the car (like any car cover) but once its on you push one button and your protected, its saved my car from dents at least once this year well worth the investment.
We've had our hail protector for our 3/4 ton crew cab diesel truck for several years. It is very easy to put on. I am a women in my late 60's and have always put it on the truck by myself. I can not say enough good things about their customer service. They always answer my emails within a matter of minutes if I have a question and have sent a part to me overnight. They have talked me thru a problem I had once. I highly recommend the Hail Protector.
This product is awesome. The customer service team is great as well. We bought 2 of these at the same time and we had problems receiving the emails for both of the phones for the emergency hail system, but they Michael with their team helped us through until we received it and it was working on both of our phones!!!! I tell ALL of our friends about these systems as well!!!
I inadvertently ordered the wrong size cover, which I did not noticed until It arrived and I opened the cover up and went through all of the install and set up procedures. The cover that I ordered was for the largest trucks and SUVs, so it was way to big once I got it pulled over my mid-size SUV. I called Hail Protector and explained what I had done and without even questioning me, they volunteered to send me the correct size via overnight UPS. This is what I consider 1st rate customer service! Plus, being here in Central Texas with the spring thunderstorms bearing down us every other day, I feel somewhat relieved to have this product. It goes on pretty quick and easy....after you practice it once or twice. I’ll write another review after we get some serious size hail, and it saves (hopefully) my new vehicle.
Thank you for coming up with idea.. Great product! Yes, it is an investment in your investment you have sitting in your driveway.. VERY easy set up. I have already recommended this product to others.. Please do yourself a favor and order this. I just wish I had found this hail cover back in 2016 when we here in South Texas had hail the size of your hand and with spikes on it.. We had lots of damage to our cars. Lesson learned. I CAN NOT express how thankful I am for someone thinking and designing this product..
The cover came in two boxes. I viewed the setup videos and had the cover on installed for the first time in about an hour. I plugged it in and watched it fully inflate in 5 minutes or so. Everything worked perfectly. Satisfied, I opened the vent, deflated it and rolled it up into its bag. It also has a small soft-sided case for the accessories.I would advise putting it on and taking it off a couple of times to get the hang of it for that inevitable hail storm. I'm ready for Spring in Texas.
I was very pleased when I received the hail protector, I assembled it and was very surprised how fast it was completely inflated and protecting the truck, Friday the hail came and the Hail protector did its job no dings on the truck. This is a great product.
So grateful we found this! We do not have a garage and live in north Texas where hail storms are a given. This has saved us numerous times. It took us a few times to really understand how to put it on and make it work for our vehicle (we have a Mini Cooper) but once we did it is a lifesaver!
Works fine. Would have given it 5 star if they had named it "Oh! Hail no!!"
Hard to put on car by ones self
I messaged the owner of Hail Protector, he was extremely informative and very responsive to my questions. The item came within a few days. I'm not sure what some of those comments out there mentioning difficulties of set up are all about. I literally put it together in about 10 minutes without even looking at the instructions. I kept thinking to myself... "there's got to be more to this setup, because many guys said they had issues ". Nope. I inflated it and my baby is safe and sound in minutes. Way to go you guys! Many more orders to come.
It should work, even though I've never actually tested it in a hailstorm. I have, however put it on four times before a forecast involving hail. Here are five things I you should know about the Hail Protector:1) You've GOT to read the instructions and test it before you need it. Of course, I received it the same day a hailstorm was forecast.2) It works as a car cover: I put it on during a road trip; it kept the rain off the vehicle as well as a car cover.3) Be wary of use during high winds: You do not want to use it if your vehicle is going to catch the wind head-on. I thought I had tucked it under the front and rear of my truck well enough; it caught head-on winds and blew up hard enough to go nearly vertical. One of the straps underneath the vehicle snapped.4) The electrical connections aren't inspiring ... the box isn't waterproof. It's labeled to place it in the trunk, bed or whatever, but that's not an easy thing to do, depending on your configuration.5) The customer service is superb. I had a couple of questions about the Hail Protector and they responded promptly. You can put it on in your driveway and amaze your neighbors. One of my nearby neighbors watched it inflate and he thought it was crazy. Then a car pulled into the driveway next to his with dents in it. Yep. I've not yet seen anything on the market that potentially keeps the hail from banging your vehicle.
This is the best product ever purchased. Works as stated. Make sure to watch YouTube. Com for installing the hail protector bag.
I contacted them before purchase to ask the following. I have a 4 Door - Crew Cab Ford 2017 F350 Dully with a Leer Cap ( Roof Height ) on an 8 foot bed. Will this system fit something this large including the Leer Cap. In a few days I did receive an email stating " Our SUV3 size is built for your truck. Cap and all." So I proceeded to order. The quality of the cover is good ( Made in China ). The rest of the parts do appear to be hand made in a garage, but they do work. The issue I had, is, this does not really fit as advertised. If I did not have a Dully, or i did not have the Cap, it could have been pulled completely down and cinched properly to hold in the wind. But as is, you cannot get it properly down to the dully wheels, and cinched tight, so as it inflates it pulls up on the body of the truck around the dully. I had 3 guys helping me in a zero wind environment, and read every instruction, and watched the youtube video prior to installation. No go... So I returned it. SURPRISE, even though they said it would fit and we followed all good purchasing standards of checking prior to purchase, you get hit with a restocking fee and you are lucky enough to pay shipping back. This is over $100.00 in cost for something we tried, followed instructions and then could not get to function. If you are not sure, do not buy it, you will get hit with a restocking and shipment fee. Please also see updated remarks
NOTE: Edited to a gentler tone and went up a star based on good responses from the company. My initial post was right after it happened, so I was quite irritated. The good news is that it will do what it advertises--IF you get it properly installed. After a couple of practice runs, I had to use it for a hailstorm tonight. I had been out and only had about 5 minutes to get it on before the hail would arrive. So I went out in a downpour and tried to put it on my truck. 10 minutes later as the hail starts coming down, I think I have it on. I guess I didn't get it cinched down correctly because after it inflated (and initially protected the truck), the wind got under it and pulled it off the front end of the truck. So now my hood (which was replaced after major hailstorms last year) is ruined again.I'm not sure how good of a deal it was considering my faulty installation still cost me some damage.I do think they should investigate improving the entire cinch-down process. My hail protector took some damage (ripped out one of the cross-body straps & the tape measure broke since I must have pulled it out too far when trying too quickly to get everything done--I'll get a paracord monkey's paw to make this go easier in the future).IMO, the control box--while intended to go inside a trunk or under the cover in the bed of a truck--should still be waterproofed. The reason being: you might be deploying it in a rainstorm & there might already be water in the bed of your truck. Water-tight boxes and connectors are not that hard to source. Much more expensive than simple barrel connectors, yes, but not so much that it couldn't be made to work. There's lots of room for improvement. I hope they will improve it.The SUV2 size is certainly not as easy to roll up as the car sized one in their demo video. Don't kid yourself. You won't be getting the genie back into the bottle. You will need quite a bit of storage space to keep this thing.Disappointed overall, but encouraged that they want to make it work.
I bought the SUV2 hail protector in April 2017 for my Ford F150 regular cab long bed four wheel drive pickup with oversize tires raised. I am in the NC mountains high up in an area which often experiences power outages so when storms are in the area I use a deep cycle boat type storage battery to power the unit and just go to bed with no worrys that it will run all night fully inflated. 5 times now since I bought it, it has save us from possible hail damage to our vehicle and on at least one of those occasions other vehicles in my area were badly damaged who did not have this system and part of those were at a car dealer near by. I had not damage at all. Before I bought it in my situation of having to part this vehicle outside I was using quilts and a couple of jerry rigged sheets of plywood to cover up my 2014 pretty truck. I figure this is the last truck I will ever buy in retirement and I reasoned we have seen that is many cases even insurance claims do not result in a fully repaired vehicle. The deductible for insurance to cover hail generally costs more than this system costs. And who wants to wait for repairs? I bought a pigtail to hook up the deep cycle battery to unit at local auto parts store. The female end is a cigarette lighter end and the othe end is alligator clips to fasten to the deep cycle battery. We seem to usually have about a ten minute warning with the hail warning software, so we store the cover in a 96 gallon garbage can instead of the cover that comes with it and then it is easy to roll out of the garage. I usually leave it on the vehicle and inflated until well after the storms are over and let sunshine dry it well before I pull the velcro strap and let the air out and store it away for next time. I admit to being a bit peaved when the packages came with MADE IN CHINA written on the boxes. HOWEVER, this system is all it is advertised to be and it has saved damage to my vehicle already several times when others had damage near by. I recommend it and would not know what to without it. We are in an area which sometimes goes a long time with no hail problem, however this year the word HAIL has become an almost weekly reality. If yourvehicle has to be outside and you have a vehicle you do not want to loose your investment in............then this system is a necessity in my opinion.
Totally awesome product detailed instructions and videos!!Worked well for my lifted truckOutstanding customer service from MikeFast shipping since I'm in DFWGreat qualityTotally recommend
Timing couldn't have been better. ROI on this cover for me is the time, cost and inconvenience it saves me from having to deal with insurance, car rentals and body shops.IMPORTANT - SIZING!
It helped tremendously
I live in a state where hail storms are an often occurnce. Not that one storm is not enough to destroy a car. I received my unit in about a week from the date of order. The unit is shipped in two boxes. My vehicle was the size of the car2 range and it is very important that you verify your vehicle size (manufacturers specs) prior to ordering the cover. I found the instructional videos on the youtube channel very helpful in getting everything setup and the videos on the vehicle positioning on the youtube channel are also helpful. Setup was easy and I tested the system using the battery pack option. Everything worked perfectly and the size of the protector was great. My car could still fit in my apartment complex sized parking spaces with it on. I think this product is brilliant and puts my mind at ease since I do not have a garage. Thank you for making this.
Absolutely fantastic cover. Innovative idea that works incredibly effectively. Installation is simple one you have everything set up and have found the best way to get it on your vehicle. Now it takes me about 10 minutes to set up or pull down, and that is with the largest cover they make on a truck that's taller than I am. Aside from a bad cable and DC adapter, everything has worked flawlessly, and those 2 issues were immediately resolved after emailing Customer Support. They have a great product and they stand by it. Once inflated, it is a really heavy duty cushion. It takes a fair amount of force to drive my hand to the body of the vehicle through the cover. I have used it on a half dozen or so occasions, but it hasn't been hailed on yet (although i'm 100% confident it will hold up to the heaviest hail). I usually just throw it on when the forecast looks bad, watch the radar, and turn the blower on if it starts to look bad.Installation:Make sure you pull it on a few times before you need it to develop a technique, all vehicles are different and you may need to add steps to account for it. The inner layer is a really slick material that pulls over the vehicle very easily, Long mast antenna's need to be removed, I fold my mirrors in, and since I have air suspension i lower the truck to create more space between the top of the truck and the top of the cover. I back into my driveway, which allows me to run the blower power cord under the garage door to the control unit (usually set on the garbage/recycle bins), and can plug into an outlet from there.Removal:I've found that it's fastest to open the blower flap to let the air out, otherwise it can take a while to deflate. I load it into the bag front first, and accordion fold it to make it easier to get out and onto the truck, and also allows you to squeeze all the air out the back openings. You have all the time you need to bag it, but you may need to be quick when putting it on: it pays to take the time to store it properly. The included app is a fantastic addition. It sends notifications for a large enough radius and early enough that I can see a storm coming and plan accordingly, and includes relevant data from reliable sources. This is a great product for people that can't park in a garage and live in areas that are prone to hail storms (Minneapolis, MN in my case), and i see this as a very easy investment that would pay for itself in one storm. I'd rather spend $400 on this and not need it than spend thousands on body and paintwork because i didn't have it. If you care about your vehicle and can't park in a garage, this is easily the best option available.I trust them with my truck, and that's not easily earned.
Update: after posting my review I was contacted by the president of the company wanting to swap the cover out with the next size down. They offered to pay for shipping both ways even though I offered to pay to send the original cover back. After receiving the smaller cover, I verified that the cover fits extremely well. It also goes on easier since it fits better. I am upgrading my review to 5 stars for the customer support.Original review: If the unit is properly sized for your vehicle, this works well. My car's length was covered by two different sizes of this cover (according to their website). I went with the larger size, and I regret it. It is really hard to keep the unit firmly attached to the vehicle, even with the straps under the belly of the car and the pull string cinched tight. It wants to float off the back of the car once fully inflated. I really want to give it 3 stars; but if properly sized, it would work well (so I settled for 4 stars). The thing gets lots of attention/comments. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to put on once you are familiar with how it works. The only real gotcha is when you need to take it off the vehicle while it is still wet/raining. I just ended up dragging it into my garage. I attempted to pull it up and over the front end of my truck to dry it out; but it was very difficult to get it to stay in place while wet (kept sliding to floor). So it sat piled up beside the truck until I could get home to lay it out in the sun. If you were in the same predicament while at work or out and about, you would have one wet trunk or back seat. The company recommends keeping it inflated for at least 30 minutes after it finishes raining to dry it out. It does help; but it will still be pretty wet after 30 minutes. I left it on for almost 6 hours after it rained and there was still moisture in/on it in some areas. Of course some of it can be attributed to the fact that mine is too large for the car (allowing water to pool in areas under the trunk).
A really useful protective cover for cars not garaged but i would have designed it lighter and thinner using ballistic fabrics. When it inflates, the wind takes it off like a sail. It offers too much wind resistance.
really a life saver lost pickup due to hail. Feel completely safe now with brand new Silverado to replace other Silverado. I live in Carrollton, Texas and have had golf ball size hail and larger since all OK. Thank You
I used the cover for a storm with hail potential but it did not actually hail when it passed over. With that said, I can't testify to its effectiveness but I would think that parking you car in a bounce house would work. I will post an update when i get some hail. Regardless, it gave me a peace of mind knowing my truck was safe with a possible hail storm approaching. I used to worry every time.Regarding the size, I have a 2007 Silverado Crew Cab short bed that measures 229 inches. I ordered the SUV 2 which covers sizes ranging from 198" to 230". I was concerned it would be a tight fit but it was perfect.
My Ford Escape will be hail free now. Ill send you some photos once, I get the instructions in my mind so it will be a cake walk installion. Thanks again
Great product! Keeps my truck safe through any hail! Highly recommend this product!
I bought my Hail Protector 2 years ago and it has already saved me in 5 hail storms. Not only does it work, but it saved my truck in a huge storm that totaled my neighbor's car. I've used it in 5 storms so far and every time it has worked flawlessly. I break it out every time there is a threat of hail in the area. It fits in the bed of my truck and goes with me when I think I might run into trouble. There's nothing better for the car guy, the big truck that doesn't fit in the garage, or the owner that doesn't have garage space and is just tired of paying deductibles like I was. There's a video on You Tube of it protecting my truck from Golf Ball size hail in Oklahoma. Search hail protector golf ball size hail and watch the awesomeness happen.
Great product. It takes some assembly, but they have good instructions and an excellent YouTube video series. Once assembled, it is very quick to install on your car. It protects very well, and helps you sleep better when the weather turns nasty. Perfect for if you have kids with a car. Excellent customer service after the sale as well.
Best money I've spent in a long time. Worked perfectly. Saved my truck that is too big for the garage. Every car near by got destroyed. My truck didn't get a scratch or ding one. So glad I had my Hail protector!!! Thanks guys for a great product!!!
We used our cover for the first time & it worked perfectly. We practiced a couple of times as suggested after we got it all set up so when the real storm came, we were ready & it is so easy to activate. CUSTOMER SERVICE is awesome. We had a couple of "minor issues" & they are very responsive. We highly recommend the product and the company without any reservation.
Before our last November hail storm we in countered a wire issue. The owner of the company returned my call at close to midnight and got is up and working protecting my prized 1986 Chevy C-10They also sent me all new parts at no charge. I would recommend this product and service to everyone!!
Took my Hail Tent to a local upholstery shop to have securing straps re-enforced, then took a picture & emailed Michael proof of repair and before I knew it my Walmart E-card was received as promised. Great service as always!D. RobinNew Orleans, La.
Very well designed product. Very satisfied.
Best purchase this year. Super easy to install. Held up to our 70 mile and hour wind, rain, and hail.. Recommended to everyone I see
Product is as described and very effective at it's intended purpose if the instructions are followed and it is very stable in all kinds of weather and high winds. I do have an issue with the design of the controller which is controlled solely by a remote key fob. I bought two of these, one for my Dodge Shadow and one for my Chevy S10 pickup which are both still in near mint original condition. The controller for the one on the Shadow seems to turn on randomly by itself from time to time. I'm not sure if it's interference from my neighbor's key fobs or something else. The one on the truck doesn't have the issue. That is not a huge problem as I can simply unplug the unit if I want to ensure it does not turn on. A much bigger issue is that if they are turned on and there is a blip in the power supply they do not restart when the power is restored as there is no hard wired switch. One day we were expecting severe weather so I set both covers up and turned them on using the power supply from the house and went to work. As I watched storms approaching, in which hail was indicated on radar, I took comfort that both vehicles were well protected so I could continue to work worry free. When I arrived home, however, both covers were shut off and fully deflated! Apparently there had been a very short blip in the power which didn't even reset the clocks in the house. Fortunately there was no hail in my neighborhood or, if there was, it came early before the power was interrupted so there was no damage. I would prefer a hard wired switch, perhaps on a hanging wand, to control the blower operation. One tip for pickup truck owners without a tonneau cover: put some kind of ballast in the truck bed to level off the top surface with the bed sides (I used some old tires). Otherwise the underside layer of the cover will sink into the truck bed and fill with water which can be a bit difficult to drain.
Watched a show on tv were Michael was trying to get the show hosts to recommend his cover to some one who could & would manufacture it. When the show was over I wanted one as my car is outside & I always worried about hail in the Denver area. Found the website & wanted to order but they were not available yet. When they hit the market I bought. Have had to put it on, not a real hard job, a few times in the 2&1/2 hail seasons I've had it. Luckily it has not been put to the test it was designed for, but is a warm & fuzzy feeling not having to worry if it does hail or how large the stones are. I grew up where hail stones the size of softballs happened, and know the damage that they do! Nice feeling not to worry if a couple of clouds form up. IF your car is outside for any length of time day or nite & you live in an area that can hail, YOU need this cover. It's a small price to pay compaired to your deductible on your insurance & your vehicle is never the same after being repaired. This cover is a must if you value your vehicle! Niterider (Not worrying about HAIL)
Absolutely the best money I have spent on my new truck. I have been through 2 hail storms since my purchase 1.5 months ago. - and not a single Ding ! They have really thought through the engineering of this product - No "smoke and mirrors" or "will it really work" as in other hail protection products. The instruction videos are great "step-by-step" and very easy to understand. It has now saved/paid my $1,000 deductible. I did have a small glitch - I called customer service and got the inventor/designer as tech support. We trouble shot the problem over the phone in less than 10-min. and I am back up and inflated ready for tonight's predicted hail storm. No longer do I wake up hearing hail and worry about "Will my truck be OK?"I travel in my work and I do like that I can carry the system with me and easily use it when out of town. If you keep your vehicle outside you have to get one of these.
I have used this system for about a year now. There were some updates required since my purchase but the company customer service is OUTSTANDING! When I deploy my hail cover and it is installed correctly you can tell that it would do the job it is intended for; the tensile strength is quite high and I have the confidence of knowing my truck will be protected. Also, I get quite the reaction from the neighbors; everyone wants to know where I got it from.
I recently received my Hail Protector and set it up a few times. With in a week i received a MSG that hail was inbound. When I got to the house, w/i five minutes and attempted to set up in a what was only heavy rain at the time. I must have gotten the main power supply (little black box) saturated with rain water because it would not power up. Fortunately I had the battery back up ready to go and it worked perfectly and stood up agains ¼ to ½ inch hail and very strong winds. I had about 2 hours of inflation out of it with the double A batteries. However, the main power supply still seems to be inoperable. Could I please get a new one of these ASAP or advice for drying it out. Thanks Shane in MO.A follow up: I received a reply email from the owner of the company with in an hour of this email to their website letting me know that a replacement part was on the way.. Great company and excellent customer service. Thanks Shane in MO
Approximately a year ago I purchased my hail protector and it has stood through various high winds, hail storms and heat without fail. Recently one of the electrical parts fail to function, I contacted the company and received the faulty part within two days, just prior to a pending storm with baseball size hail. Needless to say my wife's Chrysler 300 came through fine and I continue to live in peace!Ronald MalachiForest Park, Oklahoma.
Great product fits on my Acura RSX and on my 2012 Camaro. I've had a few storms roll through and have been able to sleep in confidence running this overnight. I had an issue with the wiring at one point, but they were very responsive in offering me a solution.
It is a good product the only thing I do not like about it is that I have to assemble it, I think it should come pre-assembled. if you don't have a garage and you live in an area that is prone to hail, this is the perfect thing to have.
My city won't allow me to put up a car port and we've had several storms this year already. I had a small issue with the cover and owner/inventor was very quick to fix the issue, in fact they were aware of the issue before I contacted them and already had designed an improvement. I was at fault for a power adapter blowing out and they insisted on sending me a replacement for free.Great product that works, and even better company.
It works as advertised. Need to watch the video of how to install or you will be lost. Takes a couple of times to get get it correctly. Have used it several times and am sure will use more. Haven't gotten the nack of folding to the smallest space yet, but will have more practice.
Great product! I bought two, as I have two rare vehicles, one that no longer I can get glass or cosmetics parts and my other vehicle I just know would never be the same after a bad hail storm. It is not just about saving my deductible, it's having am vehicle that can't be replaced! The videos on YouTube of every single step make this easy for anyone to do!
Last year I bought Jewel (my new red Nissan) and within six weeks she received $7500 in hail damage. She is back to perfect and because I want her to stay that way, I bought the hail protector. I recently tested putting it on her and know that from now on my car will be safe. I have a box that has all my HP supplies in it and I also bought an extension cord and put it in the box so I am totally prepared when I need to use this great product. I am a single retired lady and using this product is not only possible but not hard either. Anyone can do it. I am so grateful my car is now safe.
If you are living in a hail prone area, this is a superb solution. After looking at available solutions to prevent vehicle hail damage - from all over the world, I ended up with HailProtector. Attention to the smaller details are excellent. The package comes complete with anything we "normal" people will ever need. None of this buying a "basic" package, and then having to spend $$$ extra to get full functionality! If you have a second vehicle, check with HailProtector - it could be worth buying a size bigger. My cover works for both a midsize and small hatchback. Customer Service and Responses are great - rarely did I wait longer than a few hours for a response on a question. After initial assembly, installation will take about 5 minutes - ample time if one is alert. Getting caught in the hail - I'm no longer concerned about my vehicle. Just about me!
NOW LIVING IN TEXAS, firstly I was delighted to find a solution to a problem I was truly concerned about, expecting to find a thick, water-proof blanket at best. But my Internet search brought me The Hail Protector and the answer was right there on the page! Having watched it demonstrated on YouTube I was quite sure it would be out of my price range, but no - Excellent value for money. Delivery was super-fast with excellent packaging and a YouTube video to walk you through the `once-only' assembly instructions (hard copy included too!). Within half an hour I was up and running and now, `on and off' takes no longer than any other quality cover and is probably more secure. Service is exceptional too, I emailed a query late Friday evening, expecting an answer sometime Monday at best, but I was answered an hour or so later. Great product, great service - don't hesitate!
I haven't been through a hailstorm yet with mine but I have had the HP on my truck for testing and it does inflate to provide a robust barrier between your vehicle and falling objects of the hail variety! The weather alert system for your smartphone and email is also a valuable addition to warn you of the approach of bad weather! Highly recommended!
